The Oconee National Forest is a beautiful natural area located in central Georgia, United States. Although it is the smaller portion of the larger Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests system, it spans approximately 116,000 acres of protected land in the rolling hills of the state’s Piedmont region.
Lake Sinclair is a major man-made reservoir located directly within the boundaries of the Oconee National Forest in central Georgia. Covering an impressive 15,330 acres, the lake was created on the Oconee River in the 1950s by Georgia Power to generate hydroelectricity.
It serves as the primary water recreation destination for visitors to the Oconee Ranger District. The area features the Lake Sinclair Recreation Area, which offers developed facilities for a wide range of outdoor activities.
